Every state has some degree of practice regulation or guidelines when it comes to the professional practice of skin care. It can be a risky business when navigating and understanding what services an esthetician can provide, the equipment that they can use and even to the legality of what they can call themselves. While national standardization is a goal-our present situation is contributing to the potential for legal, insurance, and consumer issues. The responsibility falls on the individual, the state and manufacturers to promote safe and ethical practices in skin care services.
